Shortly after I set up a birthday fundraiser for Swingin’ D Horse Rescue on Facebook, I was hit like a freight train by pneumonia. I’ve never been so sick in my life. I didn’t even know when my birthday flew by. I wasn’t able to get out of bed for two weeks so I was oblivious to what was happening on Facebook. Other than a couple of fly-by updates, I was too weak to sit at the computer, hold up my phone or have a conversation. I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t bathe for days (I won’t even tell you how many).
I (and my horses) would not have survived, if not for the love and support of our amazing volunteers.
One day, when I was laying in bed thinking I was going to die, my husband gave me the greatest news. He said the rescue page was buzzing with activity, and that donors had carried us to our goal of $750! After being so sick, and having no human contact for so long, I bawled like a baby. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of so many people who support our mission and love our horses. Many of the donors were total strangers!
This week, I’ve slowly gotten back into the swing of life. I’m trying my hardest to get caught up with all the messages, well wishes and donations, and I feel awful that you’ve been hanging for so long.
This is what your donations purchased! We’ve been wanting a horse walker for so long, but when we’re paying $1,500 a month for feed, farrier and veterinary care, such extravagances wait on the back burner.
Every walker we’ve seen costs way too much for us to even consider, but the stars aligned and allowed us to finally make the purchase. The sellers gave us an unbelievable deal, allowing us to use donations to pay every penny.
Thank You is not enough to express our gratitude for your generous gift. It’s not just about the money, though the money helps a lot! It’s about you believing in us and our mission so much that you would take the time to navigate the donation process and show us your support.
Every penny we receive in donations allows us to improve our horses’ quality of life. Your generosity enables us to pluck even more at-risk horses out of hell and bring them to the happiest place on earth, where they await their Happily Ever After.
