Golden Emblem was foaled in 2014. She’s a gorgeous tattooed thoroughbred mare that never appeared to race. 

Golden Emblem is broke to ride, and fit for an intermediate to experienced rider. She’s currently with a foster in Sperry, OK.

Job Description

Horse Care Volunteers are essential members of our Shelter Chores Team, providing daily care of the horses we save from the slaughter pipeline.

  • Daily handling and care of horses.
    • Maintaining a neat stable area, including housekeeping, janitorial and light maintenance duties.
    • Cleaning bathrooms, lounge, office, feed room, tool rooms and barn area.
    • Cleaning stalls, shelters and paddocks.
    • Cleaning and organizing tack shed.
    • Cleaning tack and other equipment.
  • Safely handling, haltering and leading horses in the manner presented in training and orientation.
  • Observing and reporting on individual horses as they move about the pasture and stable area.
  • Grooming, saddling and bridling horses (no riding) to keep them accustomed to handling.
  • Follow instructions; work individually and as a team with other volunteers.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs., sometimes to shoulder level.
    • Hay bales, wheelbarrows, 5-gallon water buckets.
    • Various stable duties involve lifting.
  • Maintaining rescue grounds.
    • Cut and clear brush.
    • Muck and rake paddocks.
    • Assist with fence repair and construction.
    • Assist with equipment preventive maintenance.
    • Pick up litter wherever you see it.
    • Empty trash barrels – no matter how full or empty.
  • Perform other daily chores on the chalkboard in the tack shed.

Qualifications

Volunteers must be able to perform the above duties without prompting or assistance, attend horse care training, make a commitment of a minimum of four (4) hours per week for one year.
Work shifts:
At least one designated 4-hour shift, Monday through Sunday.
